Gibraltar sold its Terrasmart shelving business to Unirac for $5 million

Gibraltar Industries is exiting the renewable energy market and has sold its solar mounting and foundation business, Terrasmart, to competitor Unirac. Terrasmart is a turnkey provider of solar structures and installations, manufacturing mounting and foundation systems for ground-mounted solar systems, including ground screws suitable for challenging soil conditions, as well as fixed-tilt mounts and single-axis solar trackers.

According to documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Gibraltar sold its rooftop and ground-mounted solar rack and foundation business to Unirac for $5 million. Unirac manufactures solar racks and mounts for rooftop and ground installations.

"This acquisition is a natural extension of our DG [Distributed Generation] platform," said Unirac CEO Peter Lorenz in a press statement. "Terrasmart has an excellent reputation and a loyal customer base in ground-mounted installations, trackers, and shading solutions. By bringing Unirac's product development, supply chain, and engineering capabilities to Terrasmart, we can accelerate innovation, improve delivery, and provide our customers with more comprehensive solutions ranging from rooftop to the most complex ground conditions. We are delighted to welcome the talented Terrasmart team to Unirac and look forward to the achievements we will create together.". ”

In February, Gibraltar sold Terrasmart's power balance system technology and business to another renowned solar tracker manufacturer, GameChange Energy, for $70 million. Its eBOS series includes combiner boxes and wire products manufactured at the Grand Junction plant in Michigan.

In addition to eBOS, Terrasmart manufactures its solar structures and foundations at two facilities in Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio.

"We are selling the eBOS business as the first step in a two-phase process aligned with industry leaders," said Bill Boswell in a press release issued in February. "Gibraltar's eBOS technology meets GameChange's strategic needs, as GameChange is committed to providing cutting-edge solutions for their solar energy customers."
